MANOR PARK GRAMMAR SCHOOL

HOME HISTORY ARCHIVE GALLERY SCHOOL SONG THE WHEEL BOOK

Twenty-nine editions of the school magazine, 'the Wheel'  were published, usually every other term, between 1952 and 1972.     The first six editions were printed professionally.  Then from number 7,  Christmas 1956, to number  "XVI", Christmas 1962, the magazines were produced by the commerce department.   No mean feat with up to 58 pages typed up and around 150 copies to be duplicated, collated and bound.  From number 17,  summer 1963, the job was handed back to the professionals, the importance of the magazine being considered worthy of the expense.  And, indeed important it was, recording, at first hand events in school, sports, dramatic productions, and out of school trips, home and abroad. There were also the original contributions by pupils in both prose and poetry.  Little did the contributors realise that they were recording history and producing a very valuable resource when it came to gathering data for 'A Short History'.

Thanks to donations from several old scholars, we have, in the archive, 26 of the 29 editions. (Click here to see where original copies are stored.)  Are there, out there somewhere copies of the missing three,  nos. 2, 4 and 5  c.1952 -1955 ?
